What's it all about?
This course is for anyone who uses (or would like to use) counselling skills at work or in a personal capacity. The course is not suitable for people looking for psychological assistance to deal with personal issues.
What previous knowledge, skills or qualifications do I need?
This course builds on diverse life/family/work skills which participants bring to increase awareness and ability to listen. You need a good level of oral and written English to benefit from the course. It is recommended that you have the ESOL Skills for Life Entry Level 3 Certificate or a good level of numeracy and literacy – as you will need to read handouts and produce a portfolio of work. You should also be dexterous (able to hold and use equipment)

What will I do on the course?
You will be introduced to the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work. We will help you to develop self awareness when communicating with others, develop your listening and communication skills for helping relationships and assist others effectively in a helping role.
How will I learn?
A participative approach using tutor input, role plays, discussion, group and paired work, case studies and demonstrations backed up with handouts to reinforce learning.
How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
Continuous assessment by the tutor, peer assessment through engagement in practice sessions plus a tutor assessed portfolio.

What qualification will I get?
NCFE Award in Interpersonal Skills
