Who is the course for?
This course is for learners who would like to work directly with children and young people in a school or college environment. You will develop knowledge and a range of skills to prepare you for the role of teaching assistant (level 2).The course covers a wide range of behaviours and skills including behaviour management, safeguarding, teamwork, equality and diversity.
Learners who successfully complete the course can progress onto the level 3 qualification or apply for level 2 teaching assistant jobs.
What are the entry requirements for the course?
You must have ESOL level 2
You must have a minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE or Functional Skills level 2)
You must have a minimum of maths Level 1
If you do not have maths at level 1, you must be willing to pursue a maths course alongside your Supporting Teaching and Learning course.
What will I study on the course?
You will study 11 Units on the course. This includes topics such as safeguarding and behaviour management.
Will I need to carry out a placement?
Yes, you will need to complete a placement of approximately one day per week. You will need to have a confirmed placement before the start of the course. We can support you to find placements in exceptional circumstances.
How will I be assessed?
You will be continually assessed and produce a portfolio of work throughout the year.

Additional support available?
Help with numeracy or literacy is available in the form of discrete classes in maths and English.

Additional support can be provided for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities by discussion with the course tutor.

Learner Support Funding is available for travel and equipment to learners who qualify.
